Chargers Surpass Badgers 56-40 in NAC Action

The Colby-Sawyer women's basketball team received double figure scoring from three players to defeat Johnson State, 56-40 in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) action, Tuesday evening.

Colby-Sawyer improves to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in the NAC. After playing three times in four days, the Chargers have nine eight days off before hosting NAC rival Castleton on January 14. The Badgers drop to 5-6 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Johnson State continues its three game road trip on Friday with a 5:30 p.m. tip at the University of Maine-Farmington.

Sophomore Amanda Calvo led all scorers with 15 points off the bench for the Chargers. Junior Lexi Iannone and senior Jessica Shenkel scored 11 points apiece. Junior Kristin Ellis grabbed a game-high 13 boards. 

Johnson State was led by a double-double from junior Kasey DeGreenia. She had 11 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Ashley Goddard  scored eight points and also pulled down 11 caroms. Junior Domonique Carter-Stanley registered nine points and a game best five steals.

Colby-Sawyer raced out to a 7-0 run to begin the game and led 11-6 after the first quarter. The Chargers pushed its lead to 15 with four minutes left in the second quarter after an Ally Mignault to head into the locker room down eight, 28-20. Colby-Sawyer held an 11-2 edge in fast break points.

The home team increased its advantage in the third outscoring the Badgers 17-10. The lead ballooned to 22, midway through the fourth, after a Calvo jumper. The Badgers scored the final six points of the game, but the Chargers won the quarter 11-10 and the game 56-40.
