Badgers Late Run Not Enough in Loss to SUNY Delhi

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team battled SUNY Delhi in a non-conference contest in Carter Gymnasium on Monday afternoon. The Badgers came up short in the contest losing a by a score of 64-54. 

Freshman Halie Tillotson led the Badgers with a career high 20 points on an impressive 8-15 shooting night. Tillotson sunk 4-8 shots from behind the arc and added six rebounds and two assists. Ellery Kiefer added ten points and a team high eight rebounds and three steals. 

SUNY Delhi maintained a lead for most of the game, shaking off any Badgers comeback. The Broncos held on to a 33-30 advantage midway through the third quarter before going on a 12-3 run to close out the period. The Badgers came out strong in the final period of action taking the quarter by a score of 21-19. Kiana Johnson ignited the Badger offense with back to back layups. Christle Page and Amorette Rodriquez earned baskets of their own to cut into the Bronco deficit. The Badgers held tough defensively and converted on the other end with baskets from Tillotson and Johnson to cut the deficit to just nine points, but it wasn't enough as the Broncos closed the game by a score of 64-54.

The Broncos finished at 34.3 percent shooting (24-for-70) and 5-of-22 on threes, as the Badgers shot 30.0 percent (24-for-80) and 5-of-26, respectively. Delhi's abilities at limiting its fouls also proved key in the win, with Johnson only making one trip to the free throw line, making 1-of-2, while the Broncos connected on 11-of-19 from the charity stripe.

With the loss the Badgers move to 0-11 on the season and will host Thomas College on Friday, January 10 at 5:30pm in Carter Gymnasium.
