Mariners Slide Past Women's Basketball on Sunday

JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's basketball team dropped a North Atlantic Conference contest against the Maine Maritime Academy Mariners on Sunday afternoon in Carter Gymnasium by a score of 69-38. Sunday's game was the NVU-Johnson women's basketball annual Play4Kay game. 

The Mariners took a 15-10 lead after the first quarter and outscored the Badgers 21-8 in the second, to take a commanding 36-18 lead into halftime and never looked back as the Badgers were held to just 20 points in the second half and the Mariners scored 33 points in the final two periods.

Ellery Kiefer led the Badgers with 12 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal. Amorette Rodriquez and Halie Tillotson each added five points for NVU-Johnson to round out the top performers.

The Mariners shot 40.0 percent overall and 36.8 percent from three-point land and were ignited by Melinda Ogden's 33 points which was a career high for the senior. The Badgers shot 26.8 percent from the floor and 15.0 percent from beyond the arc. Maine Maritime held a 46-29 advantage in rebounds.

With the loss the Badgers drop to 2-18 on the season and 2-8 in NAC play. Women's basketball will head to UMPI this upcoming Friday for back to back conference games.
