Women’s Basketball Fall Shy in Nailbiter

PAUL SMITHS, NY – The Vermont State University Johnson women's basketball team traveled to face the Bobcats of Paul Smith's College, on Sunday afternoon. A slow first quarter found the Johnson Badgers in a 26-17 hole, but a controlled 10-7 second quarter set the tone for the remainder of the game. The Badgers found a dominant rhythm throughout the second half, outscoring the Bobcats 36-31 (17-13 third quarter, 19-18 fourth quarter), chipping away at the deficit. Despite this effort, Johnson remained just shy of evening the score at the buzzer, as the Bobcats secured the win 64-63.

The matchup produced much to highlight, as center Gabby Wardwell (21 pts, 20 rbs) and guard Faith Meade (12 pts, 11 rbs) produced double doubles, alongside Matt House's 14 pts and Sasha Khomutetsky's 10. Player season-highs included Meade's points and rebounds contribution, alongside House's 14 points. Wardwell's 20 rebounds led the game by a significant margin, as the next highest tallied by a single player were the 11 by teammate, Meade.

Women's Basketball is back in action on Friday, as the Badgers host SUNY Poly. Tip-off is slated for 6 pm.
