Weeks Notches Seven as Eagles Edge Badgers

POULTNEY, VT.  – The Johnson State College women's lacrosse team fell to Green Mountain College 13-9 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) game on Wednesday afternoon.   

The Badgers go to 0-7 (0-5 NAC) on the season while the Eagles improve to 1-6 (1-3 NAC).

1st Half

Nichole Weeks (Barre, Vt.) put Johnson on the board first with a goal just 12 seconds in to take the 1-0 lead. Green Mountain added two over the next 16 minutes to take a 2-1 lead. Weeks tied the game at two at the 10:52 mark, before the Eagles scored three unanswered to take back the 5-3 lead. Weeks notched her third at the 5:39 mark, followed by four goals by Green Mountain to bring the score to 9-3 at the break.

2nd Half

The Badgers fought back in the second, starting with Weeks making the score 9-4. After the Eagles answered, Sabrina Roberge (Orleans, Vt.) scored her first career goal to bring the Badgers back within five. The teams traded goals through the rest of the period, with Weeks adding three more and Roberge recording her second to bring the final score to 13-9.

Goalkeepers

Chelsea Wimble picked up the win for Green Mountain, while Naomi Quad (Morrisville, Vt.) was tagged with the loss in her first start in net of the season.

Stats Breakdown

Johnson held a 29-27 advantage in shots while the Eagles held a 26-15 edge in ground balls. Green Mountain completed 24-of-29 clear attempts, while Johnson finished 15-for-24 on clears. The Eagles converted on two of four free position shots, while the Badgers were 2-8.
