Badgers Shutout Green Mountain in NAC Opener

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College defeated Green Mountain College in each teams' North Atlantic Conference opener on Saturday at Minaert Field by the score of 4-0.  It is the Badgers fourth consecutive win and now stand at 4-1 overall, 1-0 NAC.  Green Mountain slips to 0-2-1, 0-1 NAC.

JSC received a goal and two assists from junior Ally Bataille (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood) to lead the offensive charge.  Taylor Cammer (Jefferson, N.Y./Jefferson Central), Amanda Frawley (Westford, Vt./Essex), and Bambi Patch (Johnson, Vt./Lamoille) each scored a goal and Christen Harrington (Cambridge, Vt./Lamoille) and Chelsea Hostetter (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) both recorded an assist.

Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples) did not need to make a save in the first half to pick up the win in goal for Johnson.  Kelley Lucia (West Chazy, N.Y./Beekmantown) made three saves in the second half in relief of McCullock.  GMC's Emma Lord (Greenville, N.Y./Greenville) made 10 stops.

The matches first goal came in the 11th minute when Bataille sent a pass in front of the net that Hostetter flicked with her heal and towards Patch who poked the ball past a helpless Lord to make it 1-0.

The score would remain at 1-0 through halftime but shortly after, just :22 seconds into the second half, Bataille would carry the ball up the right side and blast a shot just under the crossbar for a 2-0 Johnson lead.

Eight minutes later Bataille collected her own rebounded shot off of Lord and found Frawley unmarked in front of the net for an easy score and a 3-0 margin.

Cammer would wrap up the day's scoring when Harrington completed a change of field, receiving the feed from the right and passing to the left to an open Cammer who drilled a shot to the upper left corner for the final 4-0 score.

Johnson will travel to Paul Smith's College tomorrow for a 3:00 pm non-conference match in their next contest while Green Mountain will host Becker College, also a non-conference match, at 1:00 pm on Sunday.
