Johnson, Lyndon Play to 1-1 Draw

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College and Lyndon State College women's soccer played to a 1-1 draw after a pair overtimes on Saturday at Minaert Field in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play.  The Badgers move to 8-2-1, 3-1-1 NAC while the Hornets now stand at 7-4-1, 2-2-1 NAC.

Lyndon received an unassisted score from junior Emily Strese (Gilmanton, N.H.) and Johnson saw sophomore Chelsea Hostetter (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) score with an assist going to Stephanie Fay (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex).

Johnson keeper Amber McCullock (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) made seven saves in the tie while counterpart Tia Billado (Bellows Falls, Vt.) stopped nine shots, both playing the entire match.

LSC struck early in the second half Strese took a shot that deflected off McCullock behind to her rear left.  The ball, spinning intensely, bounced came back in front of the goal where Strese pounced on the loose ball and scored with 33:27 left in the match.

Hostetter would knot the score at 1-1 taking a field in the middle of the field at the top of the penalty box from Fay and blasting it past Billado's extended left arm.

In a very evenly played match, the teams both recorded 19 shots with LSC holding a small 6-4 edge in corner kicks on the day.

Johnson will play host to NAC foe New England College in their next match on Saturday, October 15 at 1:00 pm while Lyndon will step out of conference for a tilt at home against Norwich University on Thursday, October 13 at 3:30 pm.
