Badgers earn third straight win, 4-2 over Canton

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College women's soccer won their third consecutive match and fourth in five tries by defeating non-conference visitor SUNY Canton on Sunday 4-2.  Johnson now stands at 4-2 overall, 1-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Canton dips to 4-3 overall.

Senior Ally Bataille (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood) (pictured) and junior Amanda Frawley (Westford, Vt./Essex) each scored two goals while freshman Alexa Jakiela (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) added two assists and junior Stephanie Fay (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) had one.

Canton received scores from Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, N.Y.) and Karley Cree (Hogansburg, N.Y.) with assists coming from Chelsea Allen (Marcellus, N.Y.) and Brittany Pierce (Madrid, N.Y.).

Bataille put the Badgers on the board in the ninth minute taking a crossing pass from Jakiela and sending a shot back to the far post and past diving Canton goalie Laura Pratt (Binghamton, N.Y.)

Johnson would score a pair of goals with two minutes when Bataille was taken down in the box and Frawley converted the ensuing penalty kick making the score 2-0.  Just 1:41 later Frawley took a nice feed up the middle of field from Jakiela to get through two defenders and beat Pratt low for the third goal of the day for Johnson.

Hart's goal came just two minutes later sticking home a rebound of a well-struck dead ball from just outside the penalty box by Allen and making the score 3-1 where it remain into halftime.

Bataille netted her second goal just two minutes in the second half when Fay launched a long pass over the entirety of the midfield and to Bataille streaking up the left side where she collected and again beat Pratt and giving Johnson three-goal cushion.

Johnson sophomore Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) made six saves for Johnson to earn the victory while Pratt made two stops before being relieved by Megan Evans (Potsdam, N.Y.) with 13:41 left in the match.

JSC moves on to play at Thomas College on Friday night at 5:00 pm in NAC action while Canton will host Cazenovia College on Wednesday at 4:00 pm.
