Norwich halts JSC win streak, 2-0

NORTHFIELD, Vt. - Johnson women's soccer had their five-match win streak snapped on Sunday as the Badgers were defeated 2-0 at Norwich University in non-conference play.  JSC is now 6-3 overall, 2-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Norwich sits at 3-4-2, 1-2-2 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC).

Senior forward Brittany Casey (Pointe-Claire, Quebec) scored on a penalty kick and also added an assist to lead the Norwich University to the win.

Casey sprung fellow senior Courtney Parisot (Watertown, Conn.) on the right wing with a through ball into Johnson State's penalty box. Parisot tracked down the ball and then lofted a shot into the far left corner of the net to give Norwich a 1-0 lead just 6:07 into the match.

Casey then gave Norwich a little bit of breathing room in the second half when she buried a penalty kick attempt at the 73rd minute mark after being tripped up in the box by a JSC defender. Casey beat Johnson State goalkeeper Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) to the left leaving the Badgers' keeper with no chance to make a save.

Before Casey's PK goal, Johnson State was mounting pressure but the Badgers were unable to solve NU junior goalkeeper Allison Hull (South Royalton, Vt.) on the day. The Cadets' keeper made two stops and had the help of Shelby Descoteaux (Hudson, N.H.) deflecting an attempt away to pick up her second clean sheet of the season.

Langmaid made 10 saves for Johnson in the contest.

Johnson moves on to face Husson University on Saturday at 3:30 pm in a NAC showdown.
