JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College women's soccer won their fifth consecutive match by defeating non-conference visitor Fisher College on Saturday 11-0. Johnson now stands at 6-2 overall, 2-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Fisher dips to 1-5 overall.
Senior Ally Bataille (Waterbury, Vt./Harwood) (pictured with ball) scored three goals and notched two assists while freshman Alexa Jakiela (Middlebury, Conn./Pomperaug) and freshman Jenna Paul (Springfield, Vt. / Springfield) added two goals apiece. The Badgers attack was also aided by single goals from junior Amanda Frawley (Westford, Vt./Essex), junior Ashley Wentzell (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow), freshman Caroline Conway (Battle Creek, Mich./Purnell) and junior Chelsea Hostetter (Morrisville, Vt./ Peoples Academy). Frawley, Paul, Conway, and freshman Felicia Downing (Bradford, Vt./Oxbow) each added one assist on the afternoon.
Bataille put the Badgers on the board in the sixth minute, beating a Fisher College defender to the middle and sending a shot into top right portion of the net, past goalie Jessica Russo (Weymouth, Mass). Two minutes later Amanda Frawley scored on a centered pass from Ally Bataille to give the Badgers the early 2-0 advantage. In the twelfth minute Alexa Jakiela notched another goal for the Badgers after she deposited a rebounded shot past goalie Jessica Russo. Five minutes later Chelsea Hostetter scored off a centered ball from Jenna Paul to put the Badgers up 4-0 early in the first half. The Badgers first half scoring was capped off by a goal in the thirty fourth minute by Ashley Wentzell, who floated a shot from 23 yards out into the back of the net. At the half Johnson led Fisher 5-0.
Johnson continued the scoring in the second half as Jenna Paul converted off a cross from Ally Bataille twenty three seconds into the half. Bataille wasn't finished yet, as she scored twice more in the games forty seventh and fifty first minutes respectively. Bataille would finish the day with a hat trick and two assists, as she gave the Badgers an 8-0 edge. Later in the half Jakiela added her second goal of the afternoon after receiving a pass from Felicia Downing. Jenna Paul scored the Badgers tenth goal with a little under eighteen minutes remaining in the game as she tucked a cross from Caroline Conway into the back of the net. Conway later scored unassisted on a lofted shot over the keeper's head to conclude the scoring on the day for the Badgers and seal the 11-0 victory.
Johnson sophomore Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) made two saves for Johnson to earn the victory while Russo made eighteen stops in net for Fisher College in the loss.
JSC moves on to play a non-conference match at Norwich University, Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm while Fisher will host Maine-Presque Isle next Saturday at 3:00 pm.
