JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson women's soccer team experienced their first loss of the season within North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play falling 3-0 to visiting Husson University on Saturday. The Badgers now sit at 6-4 overall, 2-1 in the NAC while Husson has a 3-8 overall record but are tied atop the NAC standings with a 3-0 mark.
Husson's Meghan King (West Enfield, Maine) connected on a pair of scores, one unassisted effort and another assisted by Lauren Marcoux (Shawmut, Maine) while Miranda Drinkwater (Greenville, Maine) also had an unassisted goal.
Eagle keeper Jess Poulin (Albion, Maine) made four stops on the day to earn the shutout victory. Johnson sophomore goalie Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) recorded 11 saves.
Husson scored all three of their goals in the first half with Drinkwater netting the first by collecting her own rebounded shot and drilling it past Langmaid who had sprawled to make the initial save making the score 1-0 in the 11th minute.
The first of King's goals came on a nice individual move to beat the final JSC defender and then tucking a shot under Langmaid to the right corner in the 33rd minute. King's second score came with just :32 seconds remaining in the half when Marcoux sent a long pass up the middle of the field that King collected, played through contact, and blasted a shot just under the crossbar giving Langmaid no chance to make the save.
Johnson will return to the pitch tomorrow for a 2:00 pm match against Maine Maritime Academy will Husson moves on to face Lyndon State College, also on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
