Johnson, Maine Maritime play to scoreless draw

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's soccer team played visiting Maine Maritime Academy to a scoreless draw on Sunday afternoon and now see their record stand at 6-4-1 overall, 2-1-1 in the North Atlantic Conference.  The Mariners leave Johnson with a 3-6-1 overall record, 1-2-1 in the NAC.

Johnson keeper Katja Langmaid (Enosburg Falls, Vt./Enosburg) made three saves in the draw while the Mariners Taylor O'Malley (Middletown, R.I.) turned away 13 would-be goals with several saves of the highlight variety.

The Badgers were able to earn a significant 22-6 shot advantage on the day though MMA held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams were able to generate strong scoring chances throughout the match but perhaps the best came in early going of the contest when Johnson was able to get off five shots in six minutes including a shot that hit the crossbar by junior Kyleigh Joseph (Hancock, N.H./Conval) and a pair of outstanding O'Malley saves.

MMA saw their best scoring opportunity occur with just under nine minutes remaining in regulation when freshman Sarah Brochu (Hardwick, Vt./Hazen) ripped a shot that Langmaid got just a piece of before it deflected off the left post.

Johnson will move on to face Lyndon State College on the road on Saturday, October 6 in their next match with a start time of 1:00 pm.  The Mariners will travel to New London, N.H. to face Colby-Sawyer College also at 1:00 pm on Saturday, October 6.
