Badgers Blast Nighthawks With 6-0 Win

Johnson State College women's soccer snapped its skid with a  6-0 win against non-conference visitor Newbury College on Sunday afternoon.  Johnson now stands at 2-2 overall, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Newbury dips to 0-2 overall.

Freshman Maddison Prescott earned her first collegiate hat trick for the Badgers scoring once in the first half and twice in the second. The Badgers' offensive edge was sharpened by Alexa Jakiela, Briana Stadler and Jenna Paul each notching on goal apiece for Johnson. Christen Harrington chipped in two assists on the day while teammate Kyleigh Joseph contributed one.

Prescott put the Badgers on the board 41 minutes into the second half, beating a Fisher College defender to the middle, receiving a through ball from Harrington and sending a shot into the mid-right corner of the net, past goalie Elizabeth Fox.  Despite an uptick in momentum, the Badgers were unable to score again before halftime.

Johnson kept the Nighthawks at bay for the entire second half. Johnson found the back of the net just twelve minutes into the second stanza off of an unassisted goal from Jakiela. Prescott scored twice more in the games' 67th and 69th minutes respectively. Ten minutes later, Joseph found Stadler with a cross from the 12 yard line. Stadler struck the ball and placed the ball and sent it towards the far post and into the net to put Johnson up 3-0. Harrington later set up the Badgers' last goal of the day trapping a loose rebound and sending Paul to the net who then scored sealing the 6-0 victory for the Badgers.

The Badgers' set a season high in shots with 38 to match Newbury's four. Johnson took seven corner kicks to Newbury's two.
