Johnson Tops Maine Maritime 2-1

Johnson State netted a pair of second half goals to edge Maine Maritime 2-1 in a North Atlantic Conference women's soccer game Saturday. The Badgers improved to 2-3 NAC, 5-5 overall, while the Mariners dropped to 2-2-1, 3-6-2.

Maine Maritime broke a scoreless first half just before halftime when Sarah Brochu found the back of the net. Victoria Cooper sent a pass to Brochu on the right side and Brochu deposited the ball at 44:46.

 

The Mariners had three shots on goal in the first half before Brochu's score. Briana Obshatkin's shot in the 27th minute was saved by Amber McCullock, Annie Koensgen sent a ball to the net that was saved in the 31st minute and Brochu had a shot stopped in the 36th minute.

 

The Badgers managed two shots on goal in the opening half. Maddison Prescott's ball found Taylor O'Malley in the 8th minute and Chelsea Hostetter's shot was saved in the 25th minute.

 

Johnson State evened the game in the 58th minute when Alexa Jakiela fired a shot from the 12-yard line that sailed just above the outstretched hands of O'Malley. Christen Harrington netted the go-ahead score three minutes later with an unassisted score in the 61st minute.

 

McCullock finished with five saves to pick up the win, while O'Malley stopped three shots in goal for the Mariners.
