Badgers Tame Wildcats

The Johnson State College women's soccer team walked off with a 6-1 victory over host Wheelock College Saturday evening. Wheelock slid to 0-3 on the season while Johnson State improved to 2-1 overall.

Johnson capitalized in the opening stanza when junior midfielder Casey Hutchinson broke free down the right wing,launched a shot into the upper left corner of the net to just seven minutes into play. Sophomore Maddison Prescott scored the first of three goals in between Hutchinson's two all before the whilstle blew at the half. The Badgers headed into the break up 3-0. 

After more than 23 scoreless minutes to open the second half, a penalty kick was awarded to Johnson. Prescott converted it to make it 4-0 for the visitors and the contest would not get any closer.

The Wildcats did break through in the 84th minute when sophomore defender Kira Firenze took advantage of an opportunity by playing a cross to the near post to find sophomore forward Courtney Adams who found the back of the net, making the socer 5-1 with seven minutes left to play in the game. With just four minutes left, Jenna Paul hammered in one last goal to bring the final score to 6-1 in the Badgers' favor. 

Senior goalkeeper, Amber McCullock turned away five shots picking up her second win of the season. 

The Badgers travel to Fisher College for a match at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday September 7th while Wheelock continues their season on Wednesday September 10th with a match at 8:00 p.m. against Framingham State University at home.
