Badgers Earn 6-0 Win Over Mariners

The Johnson State College women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory over visiting. Mitchell slid to 0-3 on the season while Johnson State improved to 4-2 overall.

Johnson used five goals in the opening stanza and one in the second to silence the Mariners. The Badgers outshot the visitors 21 to 11 and saw first year Kylie Aither and junior Casey Hutchinson score twice and a goal for junior Alexa Jakiela en route to the Badgers' first home victory of the year. 

After just 12 scoreless minutes Aither broke opened up scoring of of a feed from Jakiela to put the Badgers on the board. Just two minutes later, the duo created almost the exact same opportunity, with a firm through ball off of Jakiela to set up Aither to easily pass Mitchell's keeper, giving Johnson a 2-0 advantage. Five minutes later, Jakiela tallied her own goal after a zipper pass to Hutchinson for the third goal in eight minutes. Casey Hutchinson closed out the half notching a goal off of a corner from Briana Stadler and then again off of a through ball down the center from Aither. The Badgers headed into the break up comfortably, 5-0.

The Mariners held Johnson scoreless until the 89th minute of the game when first year Chelsea Austin took a left to right cross from Jakiela to end the game with a bang. The Badgers closed out the game 6-0. 

Senior goalkeeper, Amber McCullock turned away eight shots picking up her fourth win of the season while Katie McBride was saddled with the loss despite her eight saves. 

The Badgers will use the week to prepare for their first conference game of the season against Thomas College next weekend at 1:00pm during Johnson State's Alumni, Family and Friends weekend. Mitchell will travel to Lyndon St. tomorrow for a non-conference match.
