Badgers Cruise to 6-2 Win over Roos

The Johnson State College women's soccer team walked off with a 6-2 victory over visiting SNUY Canton Wednesday evening in a non-conference tilt. Canton slid to 3-8 on the season while Johnson State improved to 6-2 overall and 1-0 in North Atlantic Conference play.

Johnson was led offensively by sopomore forward Maddison Prescott who tallied her second hat trick on the season. Junior midfielder Casey Hutchinson notched two goals in the Badgers' winning effort and first year Kylie Aither scored her fourth collegiate goal. 

Canton saw goals from Fran Trombley and Kaleigh Foran.

Johnson capitalized just 20 minutes into the opening stanza when Hutchinson broke free down the right wing, launched a shot into the upper left corner of the net to give the Badgers the 1-0 advantage. Just under two minutes later, first year Kylie Aither entered a one on one with the Roos' keeper and passed her with a low laser into the lower right side putting the Badgers up 2-0. Hutchinson scored her second and final goal seven minutes later off of an Aither assist. Canton answered with a blast from Trombley from about 10 yards out to get the Roos on the board. The Badgers headed into the half ahead 3-2. 

Prescott scored her first of three goals in the first two minutes of the first half which was quicly countered by a beautiful finish from Foran off of a corner kick. Despite the quick goal, the Badgers sealed the deal with two more goals over the half from Prescott to give the Badgers the win with a score of 6-2. 

Senior goalkeeper, Amber McCullock turned away eight shots picking up her fifth win of the season. while Canton's keeper Liz Lynch was saddled with the loss despite her eight saves. 

The Badgers host Maine Maritime on Saturday at 3:30pm for the team's second conference match.
