Badgers Edge Mariners

Badgers Edge Mariners

The Johnson State College women's soccer team continued its winning ways with a close 1-0 victory over visiting Maine Maritime Saturday afternoon at Johnson's Minaert Field. MMA slid to 3-8 on the season while Johnson State improved to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in North Atlantic Conference play.

Shannon Grier scored the game's lone goal, notching her third on the season.

The game went scoreless for 30 minutes while both teams played the majority of the action in the middle of the pitch. Johnson got a break when Grier picked up a loose ball in traffic in front of the net and touched it in.

The Mariners were able to hold Johnson to that only goal, creating chances up top as the second half wore on. Ultimately, the Badgers held on to their slim lead, finishing the game 1-0 in regulation time.

Senior goalkeeper, Amber McCullock made twelve saves picking up her sixth win of the season. Maine Maritime's Kelsie Hilton was saddled with the loss despite her six saves.

The Badgers return to action tomorrow when they host Husson University for a 2:30p game while the Mariners travel to Lyndon St. for a 2:30p kick off.
