Terriers Edge Badgers in 3-2 NAC Tilt

The Thomas College women's soccer team capped its regular season with a 3-2 win over Johnson State College on Saturday afternoon at Smith Field.

Seniors Lindsy Hoopingarner, Bronte Howorth and Kaisa Kaufeldt were honored prior to their final game on their home pitch and all factored significantly in the victory.

The Terriers scored their first goal in the 13th minute as Kaufeldt found first-year Camille Filloramo for the goal. It was Filloramo's team-high-tying sixth goal of the year.

Kaufeldt made the score 2-0 three minutes later registering her third tally of the year off a pass by Howorth.

First-year Julia Smith scored her first career goal in the 41st minute, converting off a free kick by fellow first-year Cassie Contigiani.

Johnson State cut the lead to 3-1 in the final minute of the first half as Kylie Aither converted on a penalty kick following a foul in the box.

Howorth nearly made it 4-1 with 10 minutes to play, but her shot was punched away at the last second by Badger goalkeeper Nichole Weeks.

Aither drew Johnson State to within a goal at 3-2 after converting a second penalty kick in the 87th minute.

Junior Paige Leary made three saves on three shots during the normal course of play, allowing only the two penalty kicks. Hoopingarner was a key cog in a Terrier defense that limited the Badgers to eight shots.

Thomas outshot Johnson State, 17-8, and held a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Howorth finished with a game-high eight shots, including three on goal. Filloramo added four shots and Kaufeldt three for the Terriers. Aither had four of the Badgers' eight shots.

Saturday's game marked the end of the regular season for Thomas (7-9, 4-5 NAC). The Terriers currently sit in the sixth and final qualifying spot for the NAC Tournament with 12 points but will need a win by Green Mountain (2-12-1, 0-7-1 NAC) over Husson (6-9-1, 3-5 NAC) at home on Sunday to advance to the postseason. Husson owns the head-to-head tiebreaker over Thomas due to a 1-0 victory at Smith Field on October 17. A potential NAC quarterfinal matchup would be Saturday, October 31 at No. 3-seed Maine Maritime Academy.
