Badgers Dropped by Mariners 5-1

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's soccer team dropped a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) match to Maine Maritime Academy 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Minaert Field.

Johnson falls to 1-8 on the season and 1-3 in NAC play. MMA improves to 5-4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference.

SCORING

1st Half: Makayla Lewis opened the scoring in the 19th minute on a goal following a cross from Morgan Libby. Kylie Aither (Hyde Park, Vt.) scored the equalizer for the Badgers in the closing minutes of the first period. Hillary Ross (Highgate, Vt.) sent a long through ball to Aither who touched it by the goalkeeper to knot the score at one going into the half.

2nd Half: Susana DeFrank put the Mariners up once again in the 51st minute on a goal assisted by Emily Wyman. Libby, Lilah Chaar, and Wyman each chipped in a goal apiece throughout the second period to bring the final to 5-1.

GOALKEEPERS

Danielle Schreiner (St. Albans, Vt.) started in net for the Badgers, stopping an impressive 20 shots on goal in the loss. The Mariners keeper, Maggie McConkey, picked up the win, stopping two out of three shots on goal.

The Badgers will travel to Colby-Sawyer on Saturday, October 8th for a NAC contest at 3:30 PM.
