WSOC: Strong Second Half Pushes Pilgrims Past Badgers

JOHNSON, Vt. - The Johnson State College women's soccer fell to New England College 6-1 in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) contest on Saturday afternoon at Minaert Field.

SCORING

1st Half: NEC (4-7-1, 3-2-0 NAC) got on the board two minutes in when Sara Locke received a pass from the right wing by Jaycie Triandafilou and threaded the ball past Johnson (4-7, 0-5 NAC) keeper Kaila Lemmer (Barnard, Vt.) for the 1-0 lead. Locke doubled the Pilgrim lead in the a8th minute when she collected a rebound off a Michaela Pomeroy shot and buried it into the open net to push the lead to 2-0.

Johnson Answered in the 37th minute when Katherine Fish (Lake Elmore, Vt.) received a through ball by Kylie Aither (Hyde Park, Vt.), wheeled around the charging NEC keeper and shot the ball into the empty net to cut the Pilgrim lead to 2-1 heading into the break.

2nd Half: NEC regained the two goal lead in the 51st minute when a cross from the right wing made it over Lemmer and to Emily LePage, who tapped it to Triandafilou to set up the third Pilgrim goal. NEC scored their fourth in the 56th minute when LePage carried the ball deep in the right wing and tapped it back to Pomeroy for the one-timer that narrowly made it past the outstretched hand of the diving keeper. NEC went up 5-1 three minutes later when a Pomeroy cross from the left wing found Triandafilou's foot and deflected into the goal. The Pilgrims notched their final goal when an NEC cross went into the box and was deflected in by a Johnson defender for the own goal.
