Denyce Ruiz Commits to Women's Soccer for 2020 Season

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's soccer program and Head Coach Andrew Lafrenz have announced the commitment from Denyce Ruiz for the 2020 season.

Denyce Ruiz has signed the necessary paperwork and committed to NVU-Johnson for the fall of 2020. Ruiz a native of Yonkers, New York spent time as a student athlete at Saunders Technical Trade High School and Ansonia High School where she graduated. When arrived at Northern Vermont University-Johnson Ruiz plans to pursue a degree in Criminal Justice with a focus on Restorative Justice.

"I choose NVU- Johnson because I want to be able to do what I love which is to play soccer and I get the chance to continue my studies," said Ruiz. "Here at NVU-Johnson I've been given the opportunity to have a great student-athlete experience and I am excited for the future."

On the soccer pitch, Ruiz was named the Player of the Year in her section. While also earning All-Section First Team honors and Honorable Mention twice throughout her career. At the club level Ruiz competed for New York Soccer Surf Club and Clarkstown Soccer Club. 

"I am excited to continue my career and be part of the Badger Athletic Family. I'm interested in seeing how Coach Lafrenz leads his team towards success." 

In the classroom, Ruiz was named to the Honor Roll and High Honor Roll throughout her high school years and plans to bring her successes both in the classroom and on the playing surface to NVU-Johnson.

"We are thrilled that Denyce has chosen to join us next year," said Lafrenz. "She is a quality soccer player who brings an amazing mindset to our team.  We are lucky to have her."

The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's soccer program and Head Coach Andrew Lafrenz plan to announce additional commitments in the near future.
