Ruiz goal not enough as the Badgers Women's Soccer goes down 5-1 to Cazenovia

Johnson, VT

Coming fresh off of a win against the VTC Knights, the Badgers Women's Soccer team's lone goal by Denyce Ruiz was not enough to match to the 5 goal effort by the Cazenovia Wildcats.  Today marked the first official match for the Cazenovia Wildcat soccer team in the North Atlantic Conference.  The Wildcats and Badgers traded early possessions with the Wildcats scoring at the 15 minute mark in the first half with a goal from by Dimertria McIntyre.  McIntyre had an active day for the Wildcats, scoring at the 66:13 and 72:50 marks of the match for a hat trick on the afternoon.

Following McIntyre first goal, the Badgers responded quickly with a shot from sophomore Ruiz into the back of the net to tie the match up early on at 16:30.  Over the next 14 minutes the Badgers defense withstood 6 shot attempts before a goal broke through by Cazenovia's Hannah Shafer.

The Badgers entered the half down 2-1, but not before the Wildcats attempted six more shots against the Badgers.  The Badgers Goalie on the afternoon, Grace Verner, made numerous saves on Wildcat shots, point blank and from outside the box Verner protected the Badgers net all afternoon.  On the day, Verner had 13 saves on 18 shots on goal.

The Badgers we lead on offense with one goal from Ruiz, Dulce Nino with 2 shots and Jordan Pelland with 2 shots as well.

The Badgers are off on Sunday and will return to action on Wednesday September 15th at Norwich University @7pm.

Go Badgers!
