VTSU Badgers 10th Win of the Season! Most wins in 29 Years for the Women's Soccer Program

Johnson, Vermont

Vermont State University Johnson Badgers Women's Soccer team defeated SUNY Canton 6-0 on Tuesday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference matchup.  The win was the 10th of the season for The Badgers, who still have one regular season game and playoffs ahead.  The 10 win mark has not been reached by Johnson since the 1993 season.  The season is all the more remarkable when realizing that the Badgers were winless in 2019, did not have a season in 2020, and won one game each in 2021 and 2022.

Grad Student Matt House (Point Pleasant Beach, NJ) tied a badger record for goals in a game with five tallies against the Kangaroos. While Freshman sensation Brittney Love opened the scoring with a goal in the 5th minute, the day belonged to Matt House.

House scored in the 16th minute and that goal saw the Badgers head into halftime up 2-0.  House was just getting warmed up.  With goals in the 67, 81st, 85th and 88th minute, House tied the single game record and pushed into a tie for 7th place all time in goals scored.

Love would end the game with one goal and three assists.  Denyce Ruiz, Abby Davis and Olivia Davis all added an assist.

The win was the 8th shutout of the season for the Badgers.  Keeper Isabell Atkisson earned her 5th shutout and 7th win of the season with two saves in this game.

The win moved the Badgers one step closer to hosting division playoffs the weekend of October 28th and 29th.  They will host SUNY Poly on Saturday, October 21st at 1:00 in Senior day – the eight Seniors and Grad students will be celebrated on Saturday.
