The Badgers Women's Soccer team earned a determined 2-1 comeback victory over Maine Maritime in Sunday's home matchup.

SUMMARY

The Johnson Badgers overcame a first-half deficit with two quick goals early in the second half to defeat Maine Maritime 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Johnson capitalized on nine shots, making the most of their opportunities and leaned on a stellar performance from goalkeeper Isabel Atkisson, who recorded 8 saves.

Maine Maritime struck first in the 22nd minute when Mayako Brown scored off a feed from Hadley Stoddard, capping a strong opening half for the visitors. The Badgers responded quickly after halftime - in the 50th minute, Jenna Jones netted the equalizer on a pass from Olivia Davis, and just 77 seconds later, Moriah Stefanik scored the go-ahead goal, assisted by Davis and Elizabeth Love.

Coach Norm Peterson reflects on the offensive play, "Our front four created a couple quality chances – Liv Davis assisted on both, Tiz (Love) was involved in everything today. Jenna Jones and Moriah do what they have done for us all season: finished chances."

Johnson's defense held firm the rest of the way, with Atkisson making several key stops to preserve the win.

"Our goalkeepers are amazing," Peterson shares. "Izzy has played most of the minutes, but Sophia is ready, getting better, and helping our team off the field. Izzy leads us from the back – she competes."

Says Peterson, "From the beginning of the season, we have talked about competing. Competing is different than working hard. Competing requires hard work, but it's about doing the little things that help you gain a small edge. Those small things make the big things happen."
