St. Albans, Vt. - Johnson State College women's tennis opened their season on Friday night falling 5-4 to visiting University of Massachusetts Boston in a match moved to Collins-Perley Sports Complex due to rain. The Badgers (0-1, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference) will be back on the court tomorrow traveling to Troy, New York to face The Sage Colleges at 1:00 pm. The Beacons (1-0, 0-0 Little East) will head south to play Castleton State College tomorrow also at 1:00 pm.
Junior Kate Murphy (Westfield, Vt./North Country) (pictured) picked up a win at fourth singles 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 over UMB's Ngoc Le (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam) while another JSC point came at second doubles where junior Maegan Ploof (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) and freshman Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt./North Country) teamed for an 8-4 win over Le and Imani Williams (Roxbury, Mass.). Johnson also had a pair of forfeit wins at sixth singles and third doubles.
