PITTSFIELD, Mass. - Johnson women's tennis picked up their first win of the young season on Saturday defeating North Atlantic Conference (NAC) foe Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) 7-2. The Badgers are now 1-2 overall, 1-0 NAC while MCLA is 0-1, 0-1 NAC.
Fellow first-year players Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt./North Country) and Annette Kaminski (Southington, Conn./Southington) both won at singles and doubles for the Badgers to help lead the win, the first for the program since September 19, 2010. Brandsetter edged MCLA's Megan Holmes 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 and Kaminski rolled by Laura Laureano 6-1, 6-0.
A sweep of three doubles matches was critical in the win. Chelsea Vallone-Curtis' (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) moved to 2-0 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win at sixth singles.
Johnson will now host defending NAC East Division champion Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday at 3:30.
