Colby-Sawyer cruises past Johnson in women’s tennis

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College saw visiting Colby-Sawyer College roll to a 9-0 North Eastern Collegiate Conference (NEAC) East Division victory on Wednesday afternoon.  The Badgers stand at 1-3 overall, 1-1 NEAC while the Chargers improve to 5-2, 3-0 NEAC.

The Chargers rolled through doubles action and to a quick 3-0 lead with sophomore Donna Gordon (Essex Junction, Vt.) and freshman Ashlyn Ramsay (Barkhamsted, Conn.) teaming for a win at the first flight over Johnson's Emily Miller (Tucson, Ariz./Ironwood Ridge) (pictured-right) and Annette Kaminski (Southington, Conn./Southington) (pictured-left) 8-3.

JSC freshman Deanna Brandstetter (Newport, Vt./North Country) won the first game of the match at second singles before Ramsey ran off the next six to win the first set 6-1.  Ramsay would take the second set at 6-3 and the two set victory as the rest of Chargers cruised to two-set wins also.

Johnson will now play at Castleton State College in their next match on Saturday, September 15 at 1:00 pm while Colby-Sawyer will step out of conference for a match at Plymouth State University on Monday at 3:30 pm.
