Thomas Tops Johnson 6-3

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson women's tennis team saw visiting Thomas College sweep all three flights in doubles action to run out to a 3-0 lead and then take the top three singles flights en route to a 6-3 North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division action on Sunday.  The Badgers are now 1-5 overall, 1-4 NEAC East while Thomas improves to 2-3 overall, 2-2 NEAC East.

The Terriers' Jessica Bowen (Lewiston, Maine) won at both first singles (6-1, 6-1) and teamed with Tyler Ventura (Atkinson, N.H.) for an 8-2 win at first doubles to help key the victory.  Ventura also earned a singles victory at the third flight by the score of 6-0, 6-4. 

Johnson earned victories at fourth singles where Kate Murphy (Westfield, Vt./North Country) won 6-1, 6-3, at fifth singles where Maegan Ploof (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) (pictured) won 6-2, 7-5, and at sixth singles where Chelsea Vallone-Curtis (St. Albans, Vt./BFA-St. Albans) won 6-3, 6-2.

The Badgers move on to face non-conference foe Plattsburgh State University on Tuesday at 3:30 pm while Thomas will take the court at the University of Southern Maine on Thursday at 4:00 pm.
