Badgers Sweep Eagles En Route to Fifth Straight Win

Johnson State College women's tennis team scored a clean sweep in singles and doubles action against Green Mountain College at the Sam-Mac Tennis indoor facility on a rainy and blustery Wednesday afternoon. The win marks the Badgers fifth straight win.

The Badgers took both the home and away matches against the Eagles this season. With the win the visitors improve to 6-5 overall with a 4-2 mark in NEAC East action, while the loss is the eighth straight for GMC and drops them to 0-6 in the NEAC East.

The Badgers' pairings of Katherina Van Woerkom and Kali CovellJana Somero andNicole Monick, and Jordan Miller and Ashley Fogg all blanked their Eagle opponents in doubles' action, 8-0 to take the early lead.

The visitors would then clinch the match in the first two flights of singles action as Van Woerkom and Covell each notched straight sets victories over their opponents.

Somero and Munick failed to surrender a single game in their third and fourth flight singles match ups, each winning, 6-0, 6-0. Miller and Fogg were nearly as dominant as they only gave up one game each en route to identical, 6-0, 6-1 match victories in No. 5 and No. 6 singles action to close out the entire match.

Green Mountain will play at Lyndon on Saturday at 1 p.m. in NEAC action, while Johnson hosts Castleton at 1 p.m. in a battle of second and third place teams.
