Badgers Best Eagles on Senior Day

JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Green Mountain 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon in a North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC) East Division matchup on the campus of Johnson State College.

The Badgers improve to 7-3 on the season and 4-2 in NEAC play. Green Mountain drops to 0-9 on the season and 0-6 in the conference.

DOUBLES

Johnson State took all three doubles matches to open the contest. The team of Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) defeated the Eagles top flight doubles pairing 8-0. Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and partner Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) also won their second flight doubles match by a score of 8-0. The Badgers' duo of Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) made easy work in third doubles, winning 8-1.

SINGLES

Johnson once again dominated singles play, winning all six matches. Van Woerkom took #1 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. Reigning NAC Rookie of the Week Page also claimed a straight sets victory in number two singles with a 6-3, 6-4 victory. In third flight singles action, Somero earned a 6-4, 6-2 victory for the Badgers.

Covell won her #4 singles match 6-0, 6-1 for Johnson. Monick took fifth flight singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win, while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) claimed the final singles match with a 6-0, 6-0 win to give Johnson the sweep.

SENIOR CELEBRATION

Prior to the match, Senior Katherina Van Woerkom was recognized as she prepared to compete in her final home match.

Johnson will travel to Castleton on Saturday, October 1st for their final NEAC East game of the season at 1:00 PM.
