
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team was defeated by SUNY Plattsburgh 8-0 on Friday afternoon.
The Badgers drop to 7-4 overall on the season, while SUNY Plattsburgh improves to 7-3 overall.
Doubles
The Cardinals took all three doubles matches to open the contest. The team of Katerina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) fell to the Cardinals top flight doubles pairing, 8-0. Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and partner Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) fell in second flight doubles 8-3. The Badgers' duo of Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) also dropped their third doubles match 8-1.
Singles
SUNY Plattsburgh took all matches in singles play. Van Woerkom fell in #1 singles in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. Page also dropped a straight sets match in number two singles 6-2, 6-2. The third flight singles match between Somero and Shari Foreman was suspended at 7-6 (Foreman), 4-2 (Somero) due to darkness.
Covell fell in her #4 singles match 6-0, 6-1. Monick lost in straight 6-0 sets in fifth singles, while Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) fell in the final singles match 6-1, 6-0.
