Badgers Down Curry in Regular Season Finale

MILTON, MASS. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Curry College 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon in their final regular season match.

The Badgers finish their season with an overall record of 9-4 and 5-2 in the NEAC East while Curry College drops to 1-11 overall.

Doubles

The No.1 pair for Curry, Keeley Hardy and Kayla Prete earned an 8-6 victory over the Badgers duo of Katherina Van Woerkom (Miami, Fla.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.).  The No. 2 partners of Stephanie Leblanc and Alexus Maclea-Perry bested the Badger's Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.), 8-1. The third flight doubles were forfeited by Curry College resulting in a victory for the Badgers in the final set.

Singles

Johnson out matched Curry in singles play, winning five of six. Van Woerkom took first singles in straight sets 6-2, 6-2. Jana Somero (St. Albans, Vt.) took both sets 6-1, 6-4 in the #2 singles match. Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) bested Curry's Alex Moschetto in #3 singles 7-5, 6-3. In fourth singles, Monick earned the win over Stephanie Leblanc for the Badgers 6-1, 6-1. Curry earned their lone singles win over Jordan Miller (Stowe, Vt.) in #5 singles 6-3, 6-2. The Badgers got the win in the final singles set due to a forfeit by Curry.

NEXT UP

The Badgers (8-4, 5-2 NEAC) will travel to Castleton University to take on third seeded Husson (6-2, 5-2 NEAC) in the semifinal round, while Colby-Sawyer (10-1, 7-0 NEAC) will take on the host, Castleton (7-6, 4-3 NEAC). The semifinal round will begin at 10:00 a.m., with the winners meeting in the final round an hour after the opening matches are complete.
