WTEN: Badgers Blanked by Plattsburgh, 9-0

JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team fell to Plattsburg 9-0 on Saturday afternoon in their home opener.

Doubles

Plattsburgh swept doubles and took a 3-0 advantage going into singles. The team of Kali Covell (Hartford, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped their match 8-1, followed by the duo of Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) and Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt., falling in a hard fought match 8-5. Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Sarah Lind (Winooski, Vt.) were blanked 8-0.

Singles

The Cardinals took all nine single matches against the Badgers. Covell took Plattsburgh's Kelci Henn to a super tiebreak in first singles, but fell short with a 6-3 loss.

In second singles, Monick took two games, falling 6-2, 6-0. In third flight singles action Messier fell in straight sets, 6-0. Fogg was able to get three points, but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-1 in fourth singles. Kershner was only able to get two games in fifth flight singles, falling 6-2, 6-0, while Lind fell in sixth flight singles 6-1, 6-0.
