
JOHNSON, Vt. – The Johnson State College women's tennis team defeated Thomas College 5-4 in a North Atlantic Conference match on Saturday afternoon.
DOUBLES
Johnson took two of three doubles matches, with the third set victory coming via forfeit. The team of Sam Kershner (Essex, Vt.) and Nicole Monick (Bennington, Vt.) dropped first singles 8-4, while Grace Page (Bennington, Vt.) and Mikayla Messier (Sheldon, Vt.) took second doubles 8-1.
SINGLES
The teams spilt singles action with three wins a piece. Monick dropped first singles in a tightly contested straight 6-4 set loss. Page took second singles to a superset tiebreaker, but dropped match 7-6, 4-6, 1-0. Messier picked up a win in third singles 6-2, 6-1.
Ashley Fogg (White River Junction, Vt.) and Kershner took fourth and fifth singles, respectively, while Thomas forfeited sixth singles to give Johnson the 5-4 edge.
