JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team opened up the 2019 season against Western New England University on Sunday morning. The Badgers dropped the opener by a score of 9-0.

SINGLES
Grace Page represented the Badgers in No. 1 singles against Maylene LaPress. Page fell short losing 6-1,6-2. Samantha Kershner competed in No. 2 singles but dropped the match by a score of 6-0,6-0 to the Golden Bears Morgan Shrader. The Golden Bears controlled the remainder of singles matches as NVU-Johnson's Iris Serrano dropped No. 3 singles by a score of 6-1,6-0. Kayla Hammond, Kristen Tirrito, and Katelyn Tirrito fell in their matches leaving the Golden Bears with a 6-0 advantage headed into doubles action.
DOUBLES
Page and Kershner competed in No. 1 doubles against LaPress and Shrader losing by a score of 8-0. The golden Bears capitalized on the remainder of doubles play as they took No. 2 and No. 3 doubles by a score of 7-2, 8-0.
With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-1 on the season and the Golden bears improve to 1-0 overall.
