JOHNSON, Vt.- The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match by a score of 9-0 to Castleton University on Tuesday evening.
DOUBLES
For the first time in the 2019 season it was Samantha Kershner and Kayla Hammond leading the Badgers in the No. 1 doubles spot. The duo faced off against Megan Nadler and Regina Marchese of the Spartans losing the opening match by a score of 8-0. Iris Serrano and teammate Kristen Tirrito competed against Emily Miller and Megan Hunt in No. 2 doubles and were outplayed losing by a score of 8-0. In the final doubles match of the evening Katelyn Tirrito and Sarah Sylvain were up against Alexis Curley and Grace Sharkey and dropped their match by a score of 8-1.
SINGLES
Heading into singles play the Badgers would have Kershner in the No. 1 spot against Nadler. Nadler controlled the pace and overcame Kershner by scores of 6-0, 6-0. Serrano faced Miller in the No.2 spot and lost by a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Spartans had the upper hand in the remaining singles matches as Hammond lost No. 3 singles by a score of 6-0, 6-1. The Tirrito sisters were overplayed in the No. 4 and No. 5 spots by the Spartans. Sylvain faced off against Curley in the final matchup of the evening but was injured mid-way through the match that allowed Curley to win by default.
With the loss the Badgers drop to 0-5 on the season.
