Women's Tennis Struggle Against NVU-Lyndon in NAC Play

JOHNSON, Vt.-The Northern Vermont University-Johnson women's tennis team faced off against rival NVU-Lyndon on Sunday afternoon in a North Atlantic Conference match. The Hornets edged the Badgers in to capture a 5-4 win.

DOUBLES

It was the duo of Grace Page and Samantha Kershner who started the match off strong for the Badgers as they controlled their doubles match against Ro Ze Yar and Erica Haykawa of the Hornets. Page and Kershner won by a score of 8-1 to give the Badgers the early lead. The Hornets Savannah Jackson and Faibe Achinda took No. 2 doubles winning by a score of 8-2 against Iris Serrano and Kayla Hammond. The Hornets continued to control the lead in No. 3 doubles as Oo Mai Be and Susmita Mangar captured an 8-5 win over Sarah Sylvain and Katelyn Tirrito.

SINGLES

Page and Kershner stayed consistent in singles action as they captured wins in No. 1 and No. 2 singles. Page won her match by a score of 6-1, 6-0 while Kershner followed winning by a score of 6-0, 6-0. The Hornets captured the next two matches as Jackson and Achinda earned wins over Serrano and Hammond by scores of 7-5, 6-3 and 6-2, 6-4. After the Hornets took No. 5 singles it was Katelyn Tirrito that took the final singles match of the afternoon as she beat Yar by a score of 7-6, 6-4.

With the loss the Badgers move to 0-6 overall and 0-2 in North Atlantic Conference action.

UP NEXT

Tomorrow the Badgers will travel to face Plymouth State University. The match is set to begin at 4:00pm.
