NVU-Johnson Falls in NAC/NEAC Women's Tennis Championship

Johnson, Vermont- Northern Vermont University-Johnson was defeated by Penn State Harrisburg in Sunday's afternoon North Atlantic Conference/North Eastern Athletic Conferences women's tennis crossover championship match. With the win, PSU Harrisburg earned an automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship. The Badgers will conclude the 2020-2021 season with a record of 1-3. 

 

Penn State Harrisburg rallied off the first three sets in doubles play. Rachael Lim and Sydney Nye picked up the first win in number one doubles over Mason Lores and Rebecca Simon by a score of 8-0. Olivia Hitz and Isabella Pizzelanti earned the win in number two doubles by a score of 8-0 over the Badgers Kayla Hammond and Kristen Tirrito and then the duo of Gabrielle Sabatose and Mary Connolly closed out doubles action beating out Annika Dyhrberg and Nicole Mooney by a score of 8-5.

 

The Badgers would fall in all six singles matches in straight sets. Lim would defeat Lores 6-0, 6-0. Nye earned the win over Simon 6-0, 6-2. At number three singles it was Hitz over Blackwell and Sabatose over Hammong in fourth singles. Mooney would represent the Badgers in number five singles and was edged out by PSU's Petrascu by a score of 6-2, 6-1 and Pizzelanti would close the match over Tirrito to earn the win and an automatic qualifier to the NCAA III Women's Tennis Championship.

 

With the loss the NVU-Johnson women's tennis program closes out the 2020-2021 season.
