Hornets Rally To Defeat Johnson 3-1

JOHNSON, Vt. – Lyndon State College rallied from down 1-0 to take the next three games and pick up a 3-1 (18-25, 31-29, 25-16, 25-17) non-conference women's volleyball victory on Sunday in Carter Gym.  The Hornets staved up four game-points in the second game of the match to tie the match at one and rode that momentum to their first victory of the season.  Lyndon improves to 1-4, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Johnson slips to 1-6, 0-0 NAC.

LSC's Maegan Fried (Great Falls, Mont.) had a strong outing recording a match-high nine kills while adding 14 digs and three assists.  Jaclyn Brett (Weymouth, Mass.) dealt out 13 assists and had seven digs while Joy Piper (Belmont, N.H.) had a stuffed stat sheet with 13 digs, five assists, four kills, four service aces, and four block assists.

Johnson's Kylie VanEtten (Montrose, Penn./Elk Lake) notched 15 assists, 18 digs, and five service aces and Alex Benlock (West Haven, Conn./Lyman Hall) had six kills, six digs, and three service aces.  Molly Grover (Cumberland, Maine/Cheverus) added four kills and 11 digs and Jessica Pafumi (Monson, Mass./Monson) had three kills, 12 digs, and a pair of service aces.

JSC had four opportunities in the pivotal game two to take 2-0 lead in the match but the Hornets rallied to grab a 31-29 win that game and never looked back.

Johnson will now play at SUNY-Canton next Saturday for a tri-match also featuring Paul Smith's College starting at 1:30 pm.  Lyndon moves on to play at Norwich University at 7:00 pm on Thursday.
