Badgers defeated by Bard, MCLA in women's volleyball

NORTH ADAMS, Mass. - Johnson women's volleyball dropped a pair of non-conference women's volleyball matches on Saturday falling 3-1 to Bard College and 3-0 to host Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA).  The Badgers stand at 1-15 overall, 0-2 North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

Bard 3, Johnson 1

Johnson played strong defense throughout but a Bard had a 20-6 edge in service aces as the Raptors topped the Badgers 3-1 (25-14, 24-26, 25-15, 25-19).  Bard improves to 5-14 overall.

Bard's Anna Kornfeld had seven of those aces and added 22 assists to key the victory.  Cara Chalk recorded 10 kills and a pair of service aces and Tytravia Riley had eight kills, three digs, and three service aces.

Johnson junior Emily Himberg (Williston, Vt./CVU) had six kills and six digs and senior Kylie VanEtten (Montrose, Penn./Elk Lake) had 10 assists to go with four digs and three kills.  Junior Mallory Corse (Cambridge, Vt./Lamoille) added five kills.

MCLA 3, Johnson 1

The host Trailblazers stacked up 20 kills and rolled to a 3-0 (25-18, 25-4, 25-13) victory on Saturday over Johnson State.  MCLA now has a 4-10 overall mark.

MCLA's Courtney Parent dealt out 12 assists and had five service aces to the lead the way in the win.  Six players had at least two kills led by Melanie Abercrombie's four.

Andrea Williams (Thorborn, Nova Scotia/North Nova) had three kills, two digs, and a block solo for Johnson.  VanEtten compiled seven digs the lead the Badger defense.

Johnson will host a NAC quad-match in their next outing on Saturday, October 13 facing Castleton State College and Green Mountain College.
