Johnson hosts NAC quad match

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College hosted a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quad-match on Saturday featuring the Vermont constituents as both Castleton State College and Green Mountain College went 2-0 and the Badgers and Lyndon State College went 0-2 for the day.  Johnson is now 1-17, 0-4 NAC and will face Lyndon on Monday night in another league showdown at 7:00 pm.

 

Green Mountain 3, Johnson 0 (25-20, 25-22, 25-19)

Green Mountain opened the day by taking three straight sets, all of which were tight, as the Eagles dispatched of the host Badgers.  Green Mountain improves to 5-12, 2-2 NAC with the victory and saw a 22-13 edge in service aces in the match to go with a 25-6 kill advantage as Johnson struggled to produce a consistent offensive attack.

GMC's Jennifer Seredejko (Greenfield, Mass.) racked up 21 assists to lead the way while Kara Egan (Breezy Point, N.Y.) tallied nine kills, nine digs, and three service aces.  Madison Wage (Cheshire, Conn.) added eight digs and five service aces for the Eagles.

Johnson saw senior Kylie VanEtten (Montrose, Penn./Elk Lake) go connect on seven service aces, five digs, and a pair of kills in the match while freshman Andrea Williams (Thorborn, Nova Scotia/North Nova) had 10 digs, four blocks, and a kill.

 

 

Castleton 3, Lyndon 0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-19)

In match two of the day Castleton piled up 31 kills led by junior Grace Schreiber (Cheshire, Conn.) and her 11 kills while freshman Bridget McCarthy (Nashua, N.H.) dealt out a whopping 23 assists to go with 11 digs to key a 3-0 win.  The Spartans strong defense allowed only five service aces for Lyndon while also piling up 51 digs.

Lyndon's senior Erica Ponte (Westport, Mass.) and junior Morgan Diltz (Moultonboro, N.H) each had six kills while freshman Laura Drake (Hinsdale, Mass.) had a team-high 11 assists.

Castleton improves to 6-8, 2-2 NAC while Lyndon dips to 2-15, 0-3 NAC.

 

Green Mountain 3, Lyndon 2 (28-30, 27-25, 15-25, 25-11, 15-12)

In the day's most entertaining match Green Mountain came back from down one set to none, two sets to one, and after trailing 6-0 in the fifth and final set to earn a tough 3-2 win over Lyndon.  Despite 29 attack errors to nearly match their 30 kills, the Eagles defense picked up 54 digs and service game accounted for 29 aces to help key the victory.

Seredejko was again the floor leader for GMC as the junior had 23 assists to go with five service aces, three digs, and two kills.  Freshman Megan Roy (Franklin, Mass.) had a team-high 12 kills while Egan and Wage both had seven.

Lyndon saw Diltz record team-high's of nine kills and 12 digs while Drake had 10 assists and six digs.  Ponte had another fine all-around match with six kills, six service aces, and five digs.

GMC leaves Johnson with a 6-12, 3-2 NAC record while Lyndon goes east with a 2-16, 0-4 NAC mark.

 

Castleton 3, Johnson 0 (25-9, 25-19, 25-16)

In the fourth and final match of the day Castleton's balanced line up assisted on all 27 of the team's kills and doubled up the Badgers in digs 54-27 as the Spartan rolled to the 3-0 win.  Freshman Michaela Babineau (Fitchburg, Mass.) had 14 assists to go with five digs while classmate Amanda Chambers (Lake George, N.Y.) had nine kills and six digs.  The Spartans are now 7-8, 3-2 NAC.

VanEtten topped the Badgers in kills (5), assists (3), and tied for the team-high in digs (6) as the senior gave all she had in her second-to-last outing in Carter Gym.  Junior Mallory Corse (Cambridge, Vt./Lamoille) had two kills, five digs, and an assist while junior Emily Himberg (Williston, Vt./CVU) had the same line of two kills, five digs, and an assist.
