Lyndon defeats Johnson 3-1 in women’s volleyball

JOHNSON, Vt. – Johnson State College was defeated on Monday night by visiting Lyndon State College 3-1 (25-20, 25-11, 23-25, 27-25) in North Atlantic Conference women's volleyball action in Carter Gymnasium.  The Badgers dip to 1-18, 0-5 NAC while Lyndon improves to 3-16, 1-4 NAC.

The visiting Hornets held off a Johnson comeback in the first set and then cruised in set two.  Johnson took the third set and then the teams went into extra play as the Hornets closed out the Badgers 27-25 to end the match.

Lyndon out attacked Johnson 134-83 in the match which led to a 43-14 kill advantage.

Freshman Laura Drake (Hinsdale, Mass.) piled up 32 assists and had 10 digs for Lyndon while both sophomore Taylor Young (Lowell, Mass.) and senior Erica Ponte (Westport, Mass.) each had 11 kills.

Johnson was led by freshman Andrea Williams (Thorborn, Nova Scotia) who had a tremendous night at the net tallying eight block solo's to go with four kills.  JSC senior Kylie VanEtten (Montrose, Penn.) had 18 digs and 10 assists for the Badgers.  VanEtten is the lone Johnson senior and was honored prior to the match as she completes her career for the Badgers as their all-time leader in assists, service aces, digs, and matches played.

Both Johnson and Lyndon will wrap up their regular-season with a NAC matches in Maine against Husson University and Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday.
