Johnson volleyball ends season at MMA

CASTINE, Maine - Johnson women's volleyball wrapped up their 2012 season on Saturday with a pair of 3-0 defeats at Maine Maritime Academy.  The Badgers lost 3-0 (25-5, 25-17, 25-6) to Husson University in their first match and then 3-0 (25-10, 25-13, 25-17) to the host Mariners to finish their season with a 1-20 overall record, 0-7 in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC).

 

Husson 3, Johnson 0 (25-5, 25-17, 25-6)

The Eagles from Husson flexed their muscle in the Badgers first match of the day as they buried 26 kills and had 24 service aces en route to the comfortable 3-0 win.  With the win Husson improved to 15-9, 6-1 NAC.

Kelsey Burill (), Alexandra deHertogh (), and Michelle Smith () eached connected for six kills while Aleta Johnson piled up 22 assists to leads the Husson offense.

Johnson received a kill, three assists, three service aces, and five digs from senior Kylie VanEtten (Montrose, Penn./Elk Lake) while junior Emily Himberg (Williston, Vt./CVU) had three kills and three digs and sophomore Amanda McLean (Queens, N.Y./HS for Environmental Science) recorded 10 digs.

 

Maine Maritime 3, Johnson (25-10, 25-13, 25-17)

The host Mariners officially ended the Badgers season in the second match of the day stacking up 31 kills and 24 service aces to roll past JSC.  The Mariners stand at 10-10 and 4-3 NAC.

MMA's Jess Menges () went for eight kills, four assists, four service aces, and four digs for a nice all-around match and Jennifer Dixon () had 20 assists to go with a match-high seven service aces. 

VanEtten wrapped up her JSC volleyball career with another well-rounded outing recording team-high's of five kills, five assists, and 11 digs.  The senior finishes her career as the Badgers all-time leader in assists, digs, service aces, and matches played while also being the only four-year women's volleyball student-athlete in the program's four-year history.

Freshman Andrea Williams (Thorborn, Nova Scotia/North Nova) chipped in with four kills, nine digs, an assist, and a block solo.
