Volleyball Stumbles at SUNY Canton Tournament

CANTON, N.Y. – The Johnson State women's volleyball team was unable to capture a win this past weekend dropping four matches at the SUNY Canton volleyball tournament. The Badgers posted 3-0 losses against Oswego St., SUNYIT, Wells College and Paul Smith's leaving JSC 0-4, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC)  just two days into the young season. Johnson will travel to SUNY Cobleskill next Saturday, September 7th for a non-conference match up.

Oswego St. 3, Johnson 0 (25-11, 25-6, 25-6)

In the season-opener for each team, Oswego blanked Johnson 3-0 behind Kelsey Dillon's seven kills. Lauren Edwards contributed to the Lakers' winning effort assisting on 13 attempts and serving six aces. Emily Lamb also had six aces. Meaghan Roefs chipped in five kills along with two service aces while Lindsey Champitto and Rachel Ruggaber also had two aces apiece.

Johnson saw service aces from sophomore Andrea Williams and junior Emily Himberg.

SUNYIT 3, Johnson 0 (25-7, 25-10,25-11) 

SUNYIT used a balanced attack to best the Badgers 3-0.  The Wildcats were lead by Hanne Saarinen with a team high seven kills. Kaitlyn Harrington and Shelby Kostal helped pace SUNYIT with four kills each.

The Badgers received five service aces from freshman Anna Bingham, while Natasha Cordner and Mallory Corse each contributed one kill.  

Wells 3, Johnson 0 (25-4, 25-15, 25-4)

The Express posted a 3-0 victory via Meredith Kadjeski's seven kills and Zakarra Butts' 10 service aces. Wells As a team, the Express hit .326 after recording 22 kills alongside only eight errors in 43 total attempts to set a program record in that statistic. 

The Badgers were led by Williams' two kills.
