Williams Shines on Senior Day

The Badgers dropped two in a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) quad-match on Saturday during senior day, losing to Husson and Maine Maritime Academy 3-0.  MMA picked up two wins on the day whole Lyndon and Husson each won a match.

Senior Andrea Williams, Johnson's lone senior saw a big game at net, posting eight block solos in the first match of the day. With the losses, the Badgers fall to 5-12 on the season and 0-5 in the conference.

Husson vs. Johnson (3-0)

Husson came out firing and earned a 25-16 victory in the opening set followed up by a 25-15 second set victory. The Eagles appeared poised to take the third set in the same fashion, but Johnson came back to tie it up 23 apiece. Kills by Lindsay Chapman gave Husson the 25-23 win.

The visitors finished with 36 total digs, with Nia Arranaga posting 11 herself and the squad ended with a .358  kill percentage with 32 kills.

For the Badgers, Breanna Laughlin posted 10 kills on the day while Anna Bingham lead the match in digs adding 12 to Johnson's 40 total digs.

Maine Maritime vs. Lyndon St. (3-0)

The Mariners earned their first victory of the day in dominant fashion, sweeping Lyndon St. 3-0. MMA won the first set by a 25-15 margin and took the second 25-20. In the third set the team didn't let the Hornets get a grip and earned the 25-12 victory.

Gillian O'Neal led the Mariners with 11 kills, nine digs, eight assists and one ace while Tess Clark posted eight kills and four services aces.

Lyndon had just 12 kills in the match but did record at match high 32 digs. Kelleigh Murtaugh contributed six kills, and eight digs.

Lyndon St. vs. Husson  (3-2)

The Eagles struck first cruising to a comfortable 25-14 win over the Hornets, but quickly realized that Lyndon was not ready to go down without a fight.  The teams battled to a 25-21 second set, seeing Lyndon victorious followed by another close set with the win going to Lyndon to put them up 2-1. Husson bounced back taking the fourth set 25-20 forcing the teams into a deciding fifth set. Not only would the set decide the match, but it also determined who would make the NAC playoffs. After an thrilling 15 point decider, Lyndon ended with two kills to seal the win and their spot in the post season.

Despite the loss, Chapman again led the Eagles posting an impressive 17 kills and 11 digs.

For Lyndon,  Ashley Barski posted a team high eight kills and six digs while Murtaugh posted 11 assists and five aces on the match.

Johnson vs. Maine Maritime (3-0)

The Mariners concluded their day with a 3-0 victory over Johnson, easily taking the sets 25-9, 25-8 and 25-14. For MMA, Spaulding offered up 22 assists on the match to go along with four aces and 11 digs.  

The Badgers were led by Williams who posted four kills in the losing effort.
