JOHNSON, VT. – The Johnson State College women's volleyball team opened the season with a 3-0 defeat to Lyndon State college on Thursday afternoon.
Lyndon starts the season with a 1-0 record, while Johnson falls to 0-1.
FIRST SET
Strong offense pushed Lyndon out to an early 7-1 lead in the first set before Johnson answered with two straight points. Lyndon then rattled off seven straight points to take a commanding 14-3 advantage. The Hornets went on to take a 25-13 win.
SECOND SET
The second set was much of the same as the Hornets quickly grabbed the lead and didn't look back as they took the second set 25-14.
THIRD SET
The Badgers jumped out to a quick 3-0 in the third set, but the Hornets came back to take a 7-4 lead. Johnson was able to mount stronger offense in the set, but ultimately fell 25-20.
STATS LEADERS
Breanna Laughlin (San Jacinto, Calif.) paced the Badgers with six kills, one ace, and five digs. Kimberly Reville (Burke, N.Y.) added three kills, four aces, and a match-high six digs. Laurel Hubbert-Severance (Hinesburg, Vt.) pitched in three kills to go with 10 assists.
