NVU-Johnson Badger Women's Volleyball earns 3-1 victory over host Salem State University

NVU-Johnson Badgers Women's Volleyball team saw action this weekend in Salem, MA at the O'Keefe Sports Complex with a tri-match against host school Salem St. and Elm's College.

The Badgers used a 49 kill effort to overwhelm the host as the Badgers earned their first victory of the season with a 3-1 win.

The Badgers jumped out early in the opening set only to see Salem St. work to tie the set and take the lead on a service error on the Badgers.  the takes would exchange points back and forth until Salem holds on to win 25-19.

The Badger regrouped on the sideline and came to life, with 13 kills in the set to 7 from Salem St. in the 2 set.  After going down early in the set 0-3, the Badgers stormed back to to a 10-6 lead following a fill by freshman Vanessa Chavez off of a set from Mason Lores.  Lores had 33 assists for the match.  The Badgers controlled the set and held off a late rally by Salem to win the set 25-20 on another kill by Chavez.

In the 3rd set, both teams would not allow the other to take lead.  Both tying and exchanged 1 point leads until the Badgers broke from following a kill by Kylie Berry, then Chavez and Berry again to go up 13-11 and an ace by Christina Betham kept the momentum going for the Badgers who win the 3rd set 25-16.

In the 4th set the host team stood strong and went up early on the Badgers before the Badgers picked up where they had left off and took the set over.  Kills by Natalia Medina and defensive efforts with digs and pin point passing by Jimmi Lynn Williams (15 digs on the day) lead the Badgers to their first victory of this early season.

Go Badgers!
