CANTON, N.Y. - Johnson State men's basketball had a second-half lead but saw host SUNY Canton outlast the Badgers and grab a 77-73 win on Tuesday. The Badgers dip to 0-4, 0-0 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) and Canton improves to 4-1 overall.
Johnson junior forward Cody Camisa (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) and sophomore guard Scott Moran (Orange, Conn./Amity) each scored 14 points while junior point guard Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) added 13 points.
Canton's Timothy Taylor had a stellar night recording game-high's of 28 points and 10 rebounds on 14-23 shooting. Irving Cato added 18 points while Vonallen Pickett came off the bench to score 10.
After falling behind 24-17 with 11:46 left in the first half go on a 13-3 run to take a 30-27 lead with 6:25 to go. A Moran lay up with :16 to play gave JSC a 42-40 lead going into the locker room.
Johnson would lead by five points on three occassions in the second half, the last following a Cory Chase (Milton, Vt./Milton) lay up making it 59-54 with 11:35 left in the game.
The 'Roos would surge ahead on an 11-0 run behind the strong inside play of Taylor and Cato turning the score into a 65-59 Canton lead with 6:16 remaining.
JSC's Bousono would attempt to lead them back as he canned three 3-point field goals down the stretch, the third knotting the game a 73-73 with 1:47 to go.
Cato would score on a post up in the following possession to take the lead back. Johnson would have a pair of chances to take the lead or tie down the stretch but a missed 3-pointer Brian Phelps (Milton, Vt./Milton) and blocked drive by Moran would result.
Johnson will now host Middlebury College on Sunday, November 27 at 2:00 pm while Canton moves on to play at Morrisville State on Tuesday, November 29 at 7:00 pm.
