Badgers defeated by national #3 Middlebury

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Visiting Johnson State College was defeated on Thursday night at nationally #3 ranked Middlebury College 103-67 in men's basketball action.  The Badgers stand at 3-5, 1-1 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) while Middlebury remains undefeated at 7-0.

Johnson senior forward Cody Camisa (Colchester, Vt./Colchester) (pictured) scored a team-high 13 points on the night while classmate Andy Bousono (Philadelphia, Penn./Nueva Esperanza) and junior forward Bryan Hickey (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) each scored 11 points. 

Middlebury senior forward Peter Lynch recorded a double-double with game-high's of 21 points and 11 rebounds.  Sophomore Hunter Merryman supplied 19 points off the Panther bench and junior guard Joey Kizel added 12 points and seven assists.  Senior Jake Wolfin was also in double-figures for Midd scoring 11 points.

The Panthers jumped out to a quick 9-2 lead with Lynch scoring all nine points for the hosts.  The Badgers would keep in striking distance after sophomore Asim Khan (Torrance, Calif./Torrance) scored, was fouled, and converted the free throw making the count 20-13 with 11:55 to play in the first half.

A Hickey lay up with 4:57 in the first made the score 35-23 setting the stage for 21-4 surge by the Panthers to close the half as the teams went to the locker room with the score at 56-29.  Middlebury would can five 3-pointers during the run.

Johnson would continue to scrap throughout the second half but would not get closer than 25 points, 68-43 at the 14:27 mark, as the Middlebury cruised to the win.

The Badgers will wrap up their fall semester schedule with a big NAC contest at Lyndon State College on Saturday at 3:00 pm while Middlebury will host Skidmore College on Saturday at 4:00 pm in their next game.
